Bessie Marian Cunningham, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2025. She was born on August 20, 1933, in Ft. Worth, Texas. Marian spent her childhood in Athens, Texas, before moving to Houston in 1949. She met her husband, Wayne, at First Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, while both were attending Bible Baptist Seminary. They married in 1952 and had three boys: David, John, and Lyn. Marian served faithfully at Helmers Street Baptist Church in Houston as the church organist and children’s Sunday School teacher. She loved her family and her Savior above all else.
Marian is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Cunningham; parents, John and Bess Duckett; brother, Paul Duckett; sister, Jane King; daughter-in-law, Marcie Cunningham; and grandson, Timothy Cunningham.
She is survived by her three sons and their families:
David Wayne Cunningham and his family: daughter, Melissa Phillips, her husband, Jeremiah, and their daughters, Katie (and her husband, Ethan) and Emma; daughter, Lauren Cunningham; son, Jonathan Cunningham, his fiancée, Samantha, and their daughter, Olivia.
John Lee Cunningham, his wife, Cindy, and their family: daughter, Christy Dekay, her husband, Nick, and their children, T.J. and Emily Bolton, and Rosalie and Sebastian Dekay; son, Lt. Col. John David Cunningham, his wife, Jamie, and their children, Caleb, Elijah, Anna Grace, Jesse, Seth, and Cora Beth; son, Timothy (kia 2008), and his daughter, Abigail; daughter-in-law, Samantha Cunningham Martin, her husband, David, and their two daughters, Amelia and Alaina; daughter, Sara Beth Bruckart, her husband, James, and their children, Sammy, Jack, and Maggie; and daughter, Kelsey Arnold, her husband, Brett, and their children, Barrett and Vivian.
Lyn Alan Cunningham, his wife, Lisa, and their family: daughter, Hannah and her partner, Matt; son, Peter, his wife Caroline, and their son, Charles; daughter, Esther and her husband, Christopher; son, Andrew and his fiancée, Lily; son, Christopher and his wife, Jackie; and daughter, Lydia.
Marian was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, and her memory will forever be cherished by her family.
A committal service will be held at Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 21723 Aldine-Westfield Road, Humble, Texas, 77338, United States. The service is scheduled for June 26, 2025, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
