Minnie Pearl Richardson (Nana) was called to rest October 13, 2018. On January 10, 1937, in Houston, Texas, Woodrow and Bennie Lee Brice, welcomed the first of their 4 children, a baby girl named Minnie Pearl into their home. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a loyal and devoted member of St. Peters The Apostle Catholic Church.
Minnie’s educational career began at Blackshear Elementary School; she then attended James D. Ryan Junior High School and Jack Yates (JY) Senior High School, where she graduated from in 1954. She went on to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Southern University in Elementary Education and her Masters of Education and Masters of Counseling degrees from Prairie View A&M University.
On May 23, 1959, Minnie was united in marriage to Clarence Richardson Jr. of Brenham, Texas. They were united in Holy Matrimony for 59 ½ years until she went home to be with the Lord. To this union 2 children were born. She was a faithful wife, devoted mother and grandmother and was always conscious about doing God’s will. One of her greatest passions was the love and care she provided to her family as well as extended family.
Her Professional career as an Educator began at Piney Point Elementary School. She later moved onto James D. Ryan Elementary School where she remained until her retirement in 1995. Minnie Pearl’s educational career was for 38 years in the Houston Independent School District. She never stopped being an educator even after retirement, it was just her calling; so much so that she accepted a position to start up and teach an Autistic class at John E. Codwell Elementary School for several more years.
Throughout her life Minnie Pearl was a member in several clubs and organizations. She was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, The Ladies Elite Social Club, LeEntrevous Bridge Club, and the Fabulous Fifties Alumni of Jack Yates High School where she served as Secretary and Treasurer over time. Not only was Minnie an active member in the community, she also was active at her church, St. Peters, in several organizations. She participated in the Music Ministry not only as a choir member but also as a pianist and organist for many years until her illness. Minnie was also a member the Knights of Peter Claver (KPC) Ladies organization.
Minnie Pearl Richardson was preceded in death by her Parents, Woodrow and Bennie Lee Brice and one Niece Dannetta Anne Boone.
Being left to cherish her many wonderful memories is her husband Mr. Clarence Richardson Jr., her daughter Kimberly Claire Richardson, son Shawn Richardson (Teneisha); Grandchildren Jessica Deborah Brown, Kiara A’lon Wade, Nadiya Patrice Richardson and Peyton Anita Richardson.; two sisters Margaret Anne Boone and Verna Kathryn McCarty; one brother Wilson Taylor Brice; Two nephews Rodney Johnson and Daniel Boone Jr. (Vilena); Two nieces Valencia Boone Brown and Vilan Mechelle Grogan; and one special adopted son Frank Tyrone Wade. Along with a host of other relatives and dear friends.
