Surrounded by his family, Raymond John McSherry entered eternal life on Sunday June 24th at 8:37 P.M. On the 22nd Ray was enjoying dinner with his son’s family when he had difficulty swallowing, stopped breathing and slipped into a coma.
Born July 15, 1957 to Mary Joan and Leroy McSherry, Ray’s baby sister, Priscilla, predeceased him. Ray is survived by his sister, Joan Peterson, and brothers, Richard, Robert and Michael McSherry. His spirit is carried on by Delores, his wife of 39 years, their children, Shawn McSherry, Brandy Smith and Melissa Lopez, and grandchildren, Zoë and Zane McSherry, Kyra Lopez, and Reagan Smith.
Raymond, or ‘My Little Shadow’ as his grandmother Mary Giblock called him, inherited many of her best qualities, eternal optimism, love for his fellow man, never having a bad word to say about anybody, patience and generosity. He moved frequently in his early years through Morris and Sussex counties, living in Morristown, Whippany, Rockaway, and Newton. Ray met his wife at County College of Morris in Randolph. They married September 1, 1979. Ray then graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson with a Master’s Degree in Business. During his early career at Exxon Corporation in Florham Park, Ray and Jeanette had their first son in 1982 and were blessed with twin girls in 1986. When the company’s headquarters moved to Houston in 1992, the family migrated to Spring TX. His 35 year career at Exxon Mobil Corporation advanced from Systems Analyst, to Financial Tax Treasury Manager for North America. He worked for BW Chemicals, Procurement, Sharp PMO and Security and Consulting for Information External Services (ESPR).
A two day vigil was held by the family along with Shawn’s wife, Bridget, Melissa’s husband, Kyle, Kirk Hall and family friend, James Husum while medical tests were conducted to determine brain activity. Ray had been visiting with Zoë and Zane the evening of the accident but special arrangements had to be made for Kyra to see him. After declaring her love, Kyra begged for ‘more time’ with him. Ray’s eyes opened during his last moments to focus on his family, then turned towards heaven where he was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior.
A Memorial Service will be held July 7, 2018 at Northside Christian Church Spring, TX at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, Raymond requested donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson ’s Disease or a Medical Go Fund Me Account for personal friends Alan and Pastor Kathy MacDonald (https://www.gofundme.com/5nmf1h4).
Due to both technical computer issues and difficulties receiving records from the hospital, the obituary was unable to be published in a timely manner. Those who did not learn of the service in time to attend may contact the family at [email protected] for information on the tree planting service at Forest Oaks Park in Spring on July 24, 2018.
