A longtime resident of the Houston Heights, Rubin was a proud Bulldog and graduate of Reagan High School, Class of 1983. As a young man, he enjoyed working in auto mechanics, playing softball and golf, fishing, and especially dancing to Tejano music. He loved festivals, cookouts, and gatherings with friends, and could often be found at St. Joseph’s Bazaar, supporting both his church and his community. Rubin had a gift for friendship—always a big brother when needed, never meeting a stranger, and leaving everyone with a joyful memory of his laughter and warm spirit.
Rubin is survived by his loving daughter, Cadence E. Garcia; her mother and devoted coparent, Diana Zamora-Garcia; his spouse, Esmeralda Guerrero-Garcia; and his sisters and brother-in-laws, Rebecca Garcia of Nixon, TX, Rita Craven (Lee) and Rachel Munos (Martin), both of Spring, Texas. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family who will miss him dearly. He also leaves behind his feline companion, April.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lasaro and Esperanza Garcia, and his nephew, Marcus A. Ruiz.
Rubin will be remembered for his zest for life, his radiant smile, and his deep, constant love for family. Above all, he was a devoted father to his only daughter, Cadence, who was his greatest source of pride and joy. She will graduate from Texas A&M University in the spring of 2026, carrying forward his legacy of strength, love, and laughter.
