Ruby Helen Scott

Ruby Helen Scott was a devoted Christian. Born in Keatchie, LA on April 28, 1936, to the late Jimmie and Ollie Mae Bryant. She was the fourth of eight children, with whom she maintained a steadfast relationship throughout her life. The family would eventually relocate to Humble, Texas where Ruby graduated early from High School in 1953. In 1959 Ruby married Roger J. Scott, producing a loving and blended household with five children: Laverne, Dwayne, Marilyn (Joyce), Kelvin (Kelki) and Tammye. During this period, she was a highly active member of Forest Lawn Missionary Baptist Church, spurring her household to participate as well.

A natural born educator, Ruby began her career in education in 1970 as a teacher assistant. She eventually pursued and obtained her B. S. in Elementary Education from Texas Southern University in 1982. She started teaching special education, and in 1988 received a M. A. from T. S. U. Subsequently, Ruby served as a school counselor and teacher until she retired in 2000. In the same year, she and Roger joined Lakewood Church, remaining members for the rest of their lives.

Ruby enjoyed cooking, baking, and shopping, as well as a good laugh. She was passionate about serving and nourishing the community through Christ, working with children, and reading the Bible. Providing structure for children, buying school supplies and lunch for her students, and even walking them home from school. Ruby happily and generously treated her students like her own children. Checking on those who did not feel well and feeding neighbors and others, often with home cooked meals, were ways in which Ruby conveyed her love and demonstrated her devotion.

Ruby entered eternal life on October 22, 2022, preceded by her parents; her husband Roger Scott; her siblings, Fannie Mae Jones and Samatha Truscott; and her sons, Dwayne Bryant and Kelvin Scott.

Ruby is survived by her daughters, Tammye Smith (Eric), Marilyn Scott, Laverne Scott, and son, George Scott, Sr. (Letia); her grandchildren, Priscilla Allen (Tyronne), Sharon Ogudo (Michael), Albert Scott, Jessica Scott, Latasha Scott-Beck (Roy Beck III), Stacey Bryant, Shanna Bryant, Ryan Brown and George Scott Jr. (Amanda); a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; other extended family members; sisters, Jimmie Bradshaw, Ella Hubbard, Betty Bryant, and brothers Joe Bryant and Dan Bryant.
