

Rufus was in high school when he joined the U.S. Army (World War II). He graduated from high school after he was discharged from the Army.
Rufus met Ella Lee Nash, and the two fell in love, and were united in holy matrimony in Shreveport, Louisiana. To this union, three wonderful children were born: Rufus Jr., Renwick Amos (preceded in rest), and Rhonda Ella. Rufus and Ella Houston relocated to Detroit, Michigan, and lived there for forty-four years.
Rufus accepted Christ in 1954 in Detroit, Michigan. He served as a bible school teacher and an Elder at Chase Road Church of Christ in Dearborn, Michigan. He also served as a bible school teacher and an Elder at Spring Woodlands Church of Christ in Spring, Texas. He was a faithful member at Bammel Church of Christ in Houston, Texas, until his health failed.
Rufus leaves to cherish his memories his faithful and devoted wife of 67 years, Ella Houston; his children, Rufus Houston, Jr., Rhonda Houston-Belton; his grandchildren, Justin Houston, Jonathan Houston, Catherine Wright (Khary), Tyler Belton, Robyn Belton; along with his great grand-children, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
