

A proud native of Fort Worth, Sherilyn attended Fort Worth Public Schools and was a stellar clarinetist in the famed “Marching 300” band at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, graduating with the Class of 1971. She continued her studies at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
At an early age, Sherilyn accepted Christ and joined Carter Metropolitan CME Church in Fort Worth, where she discovered her love for God and her lifelong passion for music. Known as a “strong tenor,” she was a faithful presence in the church choir and praise teams wherever she worshipped. She later became a devoted member of The Church Without Walls in Houston before moving closer to family in Pearland, where she attended Silverlake Church and later found a beloved church family at One Church @ Harvest Point.
Sherilyn enjoyed a long and distinguished career with AT&T, serving faithfully for 33 years in a variety of roles, including project and logistics manager. Her career brought her to Houston in 1989, where she her professional journey until her retirement.
In 2003, Sherilyn leaned into her favorite hobbies and established Event-Tastic!, a full-service events planning and management firm. She also served as a Weight Watchers Coach and HEB Chef in the Cooking Connection.
In 1976, Sherilyn married Danny Macon, and together they were blessed with a beloved daughter, Akia Ja’vawn Macon, who has been the joy of her life. She was also grateful for the gift of her bonus son, “Tony,” whom she loved as her own.
Sherilyn was an avid bowler, but her greatest joy came through cooking and sharing her delicious meals with others. Her kitchen was a place of love, laughter, and fellowship. Most of all, Sherilyn’s heart belonged to her granddaughters, who affectionately called her “Nonna.” She cherished every moment with them—celebrating their accomplishments, teaching them lessons, and creating countless treasured memories. Being “Nonna” was truly her life’s greatest blessing.
Sherilyn’s warmth, faith, and joyful spirit touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, her passion for music, her love of good food, and her unwavering kindness.
She was preceded in death by: Jesse Johnson (father), Jimmie Johnson (mother), Charles Melvin Johnson (brother), and Brad Johnson (brother).
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Akia Ja’vawn Watkins (Tony); granddaughters Kendall Lynne Watkins and Kori Laine Watkins; brother David S Johnson (Jeannette); niece Jeaneen E Johnson; nephews D. Jonathon Johnson and Bradley Johnson; extended family, cousins, and a host of friends, and loved ones who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
