Shirley Jean Davis Simmons passed away on July 5, 2026, following a short illness. Born on July 10, 1932, to Zabran and Jewel Davis in Brookhaven, Mississippi, Shirley lived a long and meaningful life rooted in love and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Carrol; her sister, Dorothy; and her beloved husband of 64 years, James Simmons.
Shirley leaves behind a family who adored her deeply: her son, Jim Simmons and wife Gay; her daughter, Barbara Hayman and husband Mark; her grandchildren, Jamie Simmons and wife Kelly, and Terri Johnson and husband Jon, and Doug Hayman and wife Tamara; along with her great-grandchildren, Reid Hayman, Henry Johnson and Claire Hayman.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She also built a respected career in the banking industry, working for Texas Commerce Bank until her retirement in 1989. After retiring, Shirley and James embraced life’s adventures together, traveling internationally for many years. Those travels brought her great joy and created cherished memories.
Shirley will be remembered for her strength and the love she poured into her family.
