Vanessa Victoria Wallace, 43, of Spring, Texas, was born in Belize on July 19, 1976 to Avis Lewis Budd and Arthuro Wallace. She attended the Holy Redeemer Primary School until Standard 6 and then moved onto St. Catherine Academy for another 4 years. Later, Vanessa followed in her mother’s footsteps and moved to the United States. She lived in Brooklyn, New York for over 20 years before making her home in Houston, Texas in 2005.

Vanessa was a loving mother to her son, Averi, and worked hard to give him the perfect life. She was incredibly smart and kind as well as a fantastic dancer. Vanessa loved to listen to Reggae music and watch live performances, and one year had the chance to come back to Belize so she could join in the celebration of J’ouvert, leaving no one untouched by her fistfuls of paint. She brought joy to so many, and amidst her struggles never stopped being herself.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Avis Budd; son, Averi Wallace; stepdad, Ray Budd; brothers, Curtis Budd, Kyle Budd, Kareem Wallace, Kenyon Wallace, Karil Wallace, and Arlon Wallace; uncle, Lenny; aunts, Aunt P, Cynthia, Margorie, Voila, Shelly, and Edith; granddaughter, Samia; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Vanessa’s love will always be felt by her brothers and sisters of kindred spirit, Karen Lewis, Aaron Lewis, Tamika Lewis, William Ysaguirrie, Roger Bryant, Pam Bryant, William Gillett, Denise Matthews, Derrick Bayliss, Rhondeen Flowers, Michael Flowers, Carla Stiggers, Natallie Espejo, Althia Sealey, Ifasina Efunyemi, Karen Daniels, Eleona Smith, Gaynell Lewis, Emerson Young, Keisha Rhyes, Carla Young, Cleon Hyde, Dorian Arnold, Isaac Davis, Denise Nelson, Tommy Shaw, Andrew Smiling, Diane Humes, Selena Estrada, Lovett Griffith, Shawn Longswort, Cherylann English, Michael Reneau, Carol Reneau, Clifton Lewis, Jennie Taraborelli, Lisa Doyle, Ann Waskoviak, Adrianne Gibbs, Mark Heidaker, Oleta Dick, Bobby Dick, Mike Winkler, Jose Ramirez, Gary Pate, Steve Pate, Jonathan Hadi, Bobby Thompson, Elaina Smith, Tracie Jenkins, Daniel Areemt, Sonia Vargas, Ryan Reynolds, Dan Klinker, Allan Warden, and many more who were blessed to know her.

Growing up on Victoria Street, attending Holy Redeemer Primary School and St Catherine’s Academy you grew and matured but you were always the same happy go luck but swift talking energetic person. Your smile lit up the room and your chuckle forced everyone to laugh even when we had no clue what the joke was about.

We both left Belize and I was blessed to reconnect with you in New York. You tried to help me land my first job. We shared so many countless memories including movie dates and dinner dates before we both decided to leave NY.

My heart is broken and I’m still in a state of disbelief but I’ve learned in all things to trust God. I will be praying for your family and hope that God will give them the understanding and peace as they lay you to rest.

Gone too soon Van but you have left behind great memories for anyone who was blessed to know you. Until we meet again, sleep well bright eyes! You are loved and will be deeply missed.

Well I meet this fire 🔥 cracker almost ten years ago at PTP where I began my career in a male dominated industry of Construction. Vanessa taught me everything I know today. A smart woman who took no shit. She had a heart of gold ❤️. Vanessa turned me into an Island gal quick from the mango and vinegar with Tony's Creole seasonings to the Boil Up and SOCA music. To the Creole lingo she would say gal you should know what I'm saying by now... Lol. We always talked about her taking me back home to Belize...lol inside joke. It was so much we talked about at work and away. This gal would tell it like it was and didn't care who liked it. Her famous line was....I couldn't care less...to know Vanessa you would understand what she meant. We would say she was the boss but not the boss that's what everyone knew. When she told us that she was diagnosed with breast cancer I got sad for her but then I realized this is Vanessa...she is a fighter by default and I know without a doubt she will be fine. I drew strength from seeing her fight 💪 through 🙏 it. She always said I'm kicking cancer ass and she did. To say I'm going to miss her is an understatement. Til we meet again let's wind Queen!! Love you forever ❤️😘 always . Your friend Adrianne & the Gibbs Family!!

Sleep in Peace Queen!
I reconnected with Vanessa in February of this year. Apparently Denise Matthews gifted her a copy of my book and she messaged me on Instagram. She was doing chemo she told me...and that's how I found out she had cancer. Like me, Vanessa and Denise are graduates of SCA and even though they were a couple classes behind me, we knew each other. It's an SCA thing. She was encouraging and excited about the book. It was heartwarming and motivating. We messaged from time to time about family and life. I was surprised to learn one day, while messaging, that she was still going to work! But that's Vanessa! A warrior for a cause! I had no idea that I got the gift of you in the month of Love! Reconnecting was a gift. Thanks Denise! Yesterday when I realized it was you who died...who many were eulogizing, I did cry. I could just imagine you saying stap yu rass 🙂. Its just sad to know that you didn't get that miracle so many prayed for. This is how I will remember you, with those big bright beautiful eyes and smile to match. That voice that electrified when it emanated from that beautiful soul. The pain is over for you. God bless you and may perpetual light shine on you. Till we meet again, rest easy Bzgrl Vanessa Wallace!
