Dick was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, to parents, Jacob and Tillie (nee Warowitz) Shur. He graduated from West Chester High School, and attended college at Temple University. He went on to establish a career as the co-owner and proprietor of several successful Army-Navy clothing stores, along with his brother, Steve Shur.
Dick will best be remembered as a loving spouse, father, grandfather, and loyal friend to many. His life was defined by his unconditional love for his family, his unwavering support of them, his generosity, and the common decency he unfailingly displayed toward all that he encountered. Throughout his life, he gave charitably to others through active participation in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Fresh Air fund for needy children, as a volunteer at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and at the Upper Merion Area Community Cupboard food bank. He bore his final illness with dignity and grace, and, without exception, looked for the positive in everyone and everything. In his eyes, the glass was always half full.
Dick is survived by his loving wife Laura, his children Scott Shur (Jackie), Howard Shur (Donna), Susan Bernstein (Eddie), grandchildren Jake, Brandon, Matthew, Blake, Jordan, Mark, and Ryan, great grandchildren Emma and Conner, brother Stephen Shur, sisters-in-law Phyllis Shur and Flossie Porter and brothers-in-law Stephen Porter and Alan Aarons.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA. Burial will follow immediately at Shalom Memorial Park, 25 Byberry Road in Huntingdon Valley.
