Dorothy (“Dot”) M. Haag (née Struebing), 87, died peacefully on December 31, 2022. Born in Philadelphia, she was the only child of the late Alfred and Dorothy Struebing and was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Thomas H. Haag.
Dot was a 1952 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School. Tom was her high school prom date, and she relished her time with him until his death in 2012. Ever social, Dot was an active stay-at-home mother to her two daughters, volunteering at many charitable groups through the decades. She was a self-described “dog person” and “shore person.”
Dot’s fondest memories involved the Jersey Shore, from her younger summers in Strathmere, to her summers and early retirement on LBI, where she participated in her church, a garden club, a walking club, and numerous mah-jongg and bridge groups. Dot maintained life-long friendships with women from Disston Elementary School, neighbors from Bucks County, and friends she met through Tom’s career, who became like family, traveling and spending good times together.
Dot was a woman of faith and enjoyed attending church retreats and trips. She especially loved singing classic hymns and attended Bible studies during her residence at Christ’s Home.
Nothing brought Dot more joy than her five grandchildren. A get-down-on-the-floor-to-play grandmother, Dot spent countless, patient hours making each of her grandkids feel special and loved. She was a cherished Mom-Mom.
Dot is survived by her daughters, Eileen (Ed) Pursley of Warminster, and Diane (Michael) McTigue of Holland; her five grandchildren, Alexander, Julia, Emily, Natalie, and John, and sisters-in-law, Dorothea (Ralph) Tinari of Buckingham, PA, and Barbara Oriolt of Myrtle Beach, SC.
Dot’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 9:00 am until her Funeral Service at 10:00 am at St Mark's Church, 1162 Beverly Road, Rydal, PA 19046. A burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Road, Roslyn, PA 19001.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dot’s memory to the Bucks County SPCA, P.O. Box 277, Lahaska, PA 18931 (buckscountyspca.org) or World Vision, P.O. Box 9716, Federal Way, WA 98063 (worldvision.org).
