Edward Jay Goldberg, 77 of Newtown, PA passed away February 20, 2020. He had a 56 year storybook love affair with his wife Judi Goldberg (nee Fox). The romance started from their first date over 60 years ago in Atlantic City. Their relationship was something that would only be seen in the movies or great literature.
We all cherish his memory and deeply feel his loss. Those who have known him over the years remember a truly remarkable man. His many hobbies turned into passions such as being a world traveler, avid reader, musician, photographer, runner, bicyclist, car racing enthusiast, and Phillies fan.
This Renaissance man above all loved and prioritized his time for his family. He was always a devoted father to Scott Goldberg (Lori Tucker), Jeffrey Goldberg (Nancy Gordon) and Todd Goldberg. His true delight were his eight grandchildren; Jake, Sam and Tucker, Sophie, Rex and Ian, Adin and Brooke.
He grew up in Camden, NJ, and graduated from the old Philadelphia College of Textile and Science in 1965. He achieved business success from humble beginnings with Sears and Roebuck to Senior Vice President of Macy's, where he spent 40 years. His business achievements led him to boardrooms, positions of distinction at numerous organizations, lobbying on Capitol Hill, speaking at numerous conferences around the world, houses of worship, developing close friendships with key government figures, religious leaders of many faiths, activists, celebrities and athletes.
A beloved reverend and dear family friend said, “our loss of him is too much too soon and there are truly no words that will satisfy your loss. But I believe that one of God’s greatest gifts to us is the gift of memory. His gift of memory will sustain us, your sons and grandchildren in the years to come. Everyone should know how much Ed mattered to all of us.”
Contributions in Ed’s memory may be made to The Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
