Elsie Rosario Albino, age 101, born in Yauco, Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully at her home in Wilkes-Barre, PA on May 24, 2024, where she resided with her beloved son, Edwin Mateo and daughter-in-law, Judith Mateo.
Elsie was born on March 14, 1923, daughter of the late Ramon Rosario Santiago and Rita Albino Oliva, and beloved wife of her pre-deceased husband of 78 years to date, Julio Mateo Reyes.
Elsie had four children: Julio Mateo, Edwin Mateo, Noel Mateo and Myrna Mateo. Out of her children, she is survived by Edwin Mateo and Myrna Mateo.
Elsie had 17 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. She was especially close to her grandson, David, whom she would always call her sweetheart. Their relationship was extremely special; a bond to her last day.
However, that was not the only special bond for Elsie; Minerva Pastrana was her very close friend. Elsie considered Minerva her daughter-in-law. They spoke every day and sometimes even twice a day. Whenever there was an opportunity to see each other, it was never passed up and always enjoyed.
Elsie took extreme pride in being a mother and a protector for her children and her home. All of her relationships were special and unique. Brunches with Jules, breakfasts with Edwin, movie night with Noel and having her morning coffee and crackers with her daughter Myrna are all things that she treasured.
During her last days, she was compassionately cared for by her granddaughter, Tarika Mateo, who went above and beyond to make sure she was comfortable until her last breath.
Elsie will be truly missed by her loved ones.
