George H. Hee, age 70, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on October 10, 2017. George was the beloved husband of Barbara; loving father of Linda, Carol, and John (Sharon); cherished grandfather of Katharine, Robert Joseph, Rebecka, and Jacob; and dear brother of Paul (Patricia) and Jerome (Emily).
Born and raised in Philadelphia, to George and Madeline Hee, George attended St. Henry's Elementary School and loyally kept in touch with classmates throughout the years. He was a proud 1965 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School who continued his education at Pennsylvania State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1969. George served his country in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant and as a Captain in the Army Reserves. George devoted his entire career to public service, working for the City of Philadelphia for 34 years. A devout Catholic, George actively participated in the life of St. Cecilia's Parish. He served on their Pastoral Council and was a generous contributor to nonprofits focused on finding cures to juvenile cancer and protecting wild animals and their habitats. George enjoyed reading; in particular, he loved biographies and books concerning U.S. history. He was also an avid sports fan, following NASCAR, the Phillies, the Eagles, and cheering especially loudly for the FLYERS. Always ready to celebrate, George relished playing the role of generous host. He imparted to his children the value of education and commitment using their talents to serve the greater good. Above all else, George cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, and the trips he took with Barbara, his wife of 47 years, and the many photos he took to capture the fun times.
