

George L. Welhaf Sr., 89, died Friday, January 17, 2014 at his residence in Leola, PA, with his family by his side. George was born August 11, 1924 in Philadelphia; he was the son of George M. and Helen Blanche (nee Hackman) Welhaf. He was a graduate of Frankfort High School and served in the U S Army during WWII. He was the recipient of the Bronze star, the good Conduct Medal. Distinguished Unit Emblem, Combat Infantryman Badge, and was our true hero.
George married the love of his life, Theresa (nee Beisel) on June 18, 1949. They were happily married for 64 years and resided in Feasterville. His great pride was the shore house that he built in Beach Creek, North Wildwood, NJ. It was his labor of love for 51 years. George loved time with family, bowling, golf and was happiest when busy. He always had his music playing. George will be greatly missed for his loving, kind nature, his devotion to his wife and family, his work ethic and his compassion and willingness to put others before himself. We will never forget his smile.
He was preceded in death by one grandson; Robert Hanson Jr. and by one great-grandson, Anthony Welhaf; also by one brother, Kenneth Welhaf; brother-in-law Charles Beisel; and by one daughter in law, Margaret Mary Welhaf. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Welhaf of Leola, PA; son George Welhaf Jr. (Banyate) of Thailand; daughter, Doris M. Hanson (Robert) of Philadelphia, PA; son, Stephen W. Welhaf of Warrington, PA; daughter, Deborah H. Canning (Marlin) of Leola, PA; son, Robert K. Welhaf (Dee) of Pipersville, PA; daughter, Emma M. Everett (Tim) of New Hope, PA; son, Richard R. Welhaf (Mary Lou) of Colmar, PA and by 22 Grandchildren and 12 Great grand-children.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2014 with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Christopher’s Church, 13301 Proctor Road, Philadelphia, PA. Interment will immediately follow at Forest Hills Cemetery under the direction of Lamb Funeral Home.
