

Gertrude E. Friel died on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Pennsburg Manor in Pennsburg, PA. She was 83 years of age. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Weldon and Sophie Springer Meiris. Gertrude had lived in Red Hill for the past 17 years; she had previously been a longtime resident of Jenkintown.
Mrs. Friel was a homemaker, who raised 7 children. She was a former member and president of Upper Perkiomen Valley Lions Club. Gertrude enjoyed playing games on her laptop, puzzles, making greeting cards, and arts and crafts. She also was skilled at canning chairs.
Gertrude was the beloved wife of William A. Friel for 66 years. She was the devoted mother of William A. Friel, Jr. of Red Hill, Janice Hluchan of Horsham, Martin Friel (Linda) of Dublin, Thomas Friel (Gail) of Skippack, Kathryn Platt (Frank) of Fort Washington, James Friel of Harleysville, and the late Eileen Tagmeyer. She was the sister of William Meiris, Barbara McCloskey, Charles Meiris, Lillian Harris, and the late Louise Klock and Joseph Meiris. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to her service at 11 AM on Monday, June 6th the Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA. Her interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.
