

Howard was born in Philadelphia to the late Henry J. Hartley and Mary T. Hartley (née Rice). He graduated from La Salle College High School in 1965 and went on to attend La Salle University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration.
Howard built a career as an accountant, working for PECO and later for Joel L. Glauser, P.C. In addition to his professional career, Howard proudly served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
Howard enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. He especially loved fishing with his son Michael, and the two also enjoyed attending NASCAR races together. He shared a love of music and concerts with his daughter, Lisa Marie. Howard’s favorite vacation spots were Cape May and the Ocean City, where he and his wife Joanne cherished many relaxing weekend getaways.
Above all, Howard loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry J. Hartley and Mary T. Hartley (née Rice), and his sister, Patricia Johnson (née Hartley).
Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joanne M. Hartley (née Bader); his son, Michael Hartley; and his daughter, Lisa Marie Hartley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, which will be held at Lamb Funeral Home Inc., 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. Followed by the funeral service at 10:00 am. Burial will take place at 12:00 pm, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 W Cheltenham Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19150.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Howard William Hartley to the American Diabetes Association or the American Liver Foundation.
