Irene was born in Salisbury, Maryland, to Albert Segall and Paula Segall (nee Diamond). She grew up in the Philadelphia area and graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1955. Irene continued her education, graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Medical Technology. After graduation, she married her college sweetheart, Malvin Weinberger in 1959. While Malvin pursued his medical degree, Irene supported him by working for Merck for several years. Irene had numerous interests including photography and sewing and was known both for capturing photos from her travels across the globe as well as making fine clothes and formal outfits for herself and others. She also dedicated a significant amount of time to volunteer work including Reading for the Blind, Planned Parenthood, the Coral Gables Police Department Youth Resource Unit, the VA Hospital, and in 1985, along with her husband, became founding members of Congregation Bet Shira where she oversaw the Congregation’s gift shop for many years.
Irene is survived by Malvin, her husband of 67 years, her three children – Audrey (Dawn), Benjamin (Ruth), and Jeremy, six grandchildren – Marcus, Dani, Matthew, Martin, Grayson and Camden, her sister Naomi Deborah (Michael Stapler), and her sister-in-law Sylva.
