James Albert Clapp, Jr. was born in Philadelphia on December 7, 1928. He is the son of James A. Clapp, Sr. and Dorothy (nee Hipple). He was the oldest of three boys. After graduating high school, he joined the Army and served in an artillery division in Guam. Upon returning to civilian life, Jim worked in the family textile business for many years. Later, Jim founded Clapp Associates where sons Dann and Scott work today.
More importantly, after returning to civilian life, Jim met, courted and married Joan Lansing Hughes, the love of his life. They married and had four sons.
For many years, Jim and Joan lived on Kings Oak Lane in Fox Chase, where they hosted many Philadelphia Ski Club pool parties. They were avid skiers and all the boys learned to ski at a young age.
After the boys were grown, Jim and Joan moved to Newtown. Later, when Jim retired, they traveled extensively. Jim also had time to pursue two of his passions---golfing and fishing.
Joan passed away in 2006. Shortly after that, Jim moved to Anne’s Choice. He retired the golf clubs and fishing rods, and became well known as a regular at the local Dunkin’ Donuts.
Jim stayed connected to Clapp Associates with frequent visits where he was prone to taking naps at his old desk. He loved family get-togethers and especially loved time spent with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at 12 noon and Memorial Service at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, February 13 at the Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 12265 Townsend Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154.
