James A. Hood died on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at his residence. He was ninety-two years of age. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late James and Gertrude Hood. James was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Hood was the retired inspector for the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Licensing and Inspection. He was Army veteran of WW II and a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
James was a communicant of Saint Martha’s Parish in Philadelphia and was active with the Men of Malvern.
Mr. Hood was chess champion and had coached football. He also enjoyed bowling, darts, shuffleboard and pool.
James was the beloved husband of Harriet Frankenfield Hood for seventy-four years. He was the devoted father of James A. Hood Jr. (the late Catherine) of Pipersville PA, Daniel W. Hood (Oriana) of Bethlehem PA and Gwendolyn Mitchell (Michael) of Inverness Florida. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM at the Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 and from 9 to 10 AM St. Martha Church, 11301 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at t 10 AM. His Inurnment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in F Kintnersville, PA.
