Jano James Thottumkal was born to T. C. Chacko (James) and Jessy James (Lahayil) on March 10, 1971 in Ranni, Kerala, India. He was the eldest brother of 22 cousins on his paternal side and second eldest of 15 cousins on maternal side.
Jano attended Sacred Heart High School and NSS College Changanacherry before joining Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Science, Coimbatore to pursue his Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. After his graduation, he worked as a medical representative for Lupin Pharamaceutical Madhurai, India. He came to the United States in 1997 and worked with Rite-Aid as a pharmacist.
Jano was a member of St. Mary’s Knanaya church, Philadelphia. Jano truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; music was his passion. Jano was artistically gifted in a plethora of ways. He was a renowned singer in the Knanaya Jacobite community and passionately played various instruments such as the flute, keyboard, guitar, clarinet, accordion, etc; additionally he enjoyed fishing, badminton, biking, playing chess and observing art. History was his favorite subject and he always enjoyed discussions with people on historical topics and conspiracies. He was always bold and confident– never failing to express his beliefs or perspective on life. Jano was an intelligent, compassionate, free-spirited, and a creative person to those who knew him. Though his life posed many challenges, his smile and laughter made any gathering a joyous occasion.
On August 21, 2019, Jano passed away at his residence. Though death came for him at a time least expected, it was his time to join those who had gone before him to meet our Lord, Jesus Christ.
