A long time resident of Philadelphia, Joel was born on October 4, 1940 in Rochester, New York, to parents, David and Francis Eichen.
He graduated from Brighton High School in 1958. He continued his education, attending University of Rochester from 1958-60, and then graduating from University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine as a D.D.S in 1964. Joel went on to establish a career as a dentist, first in Rochester and then in Philadelphia, for over 50 years.
He was a dedicated member of Rodeph Shalom Synagogue’s Saturday Morning Torah Study Group, where he could be found every Saturday morning studying and sharing insights on ancient Hebrew texts and traditions. He also loved to share his time with his sons Lee and Jeff and grandsons Levi, Charlie, Matt and Jess and would not miss any opportunity to see them.
Joel is survived by his sons Jeff and Lee, his daughters-in-law Michelle and Jeanine, his grandsons Matt, Jess, Levi and Charlie, his sister Arlene Stolnitz and her partner Joel Kreiss, his nieces and nephews Carla and David Levant and Mark and Judith Stolnitz, and their children Tristan and Quentin Levant and Alana and Erika Stolnitz.
A graveside service will be held for Joel on Friday, August 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Shalom Memorial Park
