John Abraham (Joy) hails from the family of Enchakilethu in Pariyaram, Elanthoor, Kerala and his home parish was Immanuel Marthoma Church, Pariyaram. He has three bothers and three sisters. He attended Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta and began his career as a Manager in Peermade and Munnar Tea Estates. He met the love of his life, Ivy Varghese, a teacher in TMVM high school, Vettiyar and got married to her on April 17, 1967. He was blessed with 48 years of loving and faithful marriage. He moved to Mumbai in 1970 and worked as a Bank Accountant for 15 years before he went back to his native place to take care of his ailing mother with whom, he used to recall, he had spent his happiest years. He was very active in all social and religious activities and enjoyed the company of his relatives and friends.
After migrating to the United States in 1992, he began working in Cardone industries, Pennsylvania for 13 years. He got settled in Philadelphia with his family. Soon after his arrival in USA, he got heavily involved in church affairs and he was one of the pioneers who worked hard in the formation of Ascension Marthoma Church in Philadelphia. He was an important pillar of this parish through its crucial and testing times. His hard work, vision, dedication and dependability helped remarkably in guiding this young parish in its infancy. He has been a member of Ascension Marthoma Church in Philadelphia throughout his stay in USA.
He spent his retirement in Danbury, Connecticut, with his only daughter, Jaya, his Son-in-law Babu Johnson, his wife Ivy and his two beautiful grandchildren, Sarah & Sarina. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his precious grandchildren. He loved the Lord and enjoyed the fellowship with fellow believers. Staying true to his character, he exhibited great resiliency and continued to profess his faith in God until his last moments. A simple man, he was kind, caring and known for his loving and serving heart, always happy to lend a hand to people around him. He was a very pleasant person to deal with and anyone will find in him a rare blend of excellent character, courteous character, sound judgment and a firm commitment to what he believed to be right. In addition, he was very quiet person, very soft spoken and very slow to anger. Though his voice is mute and stilled, he is not forgotten, nor will he be ever be as long as life and memory last. We miss him and our hearts are sore. As the inevitable prescribed by God and nature has happened, we miss him more and more with his loving tender care and smile looming large more than ever. He was called to his heavenly abode peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. He will live in our hearts forever.
He is survived by the love of his life, Ivy (Varghese) John and his only daughter Jaya Johnson, his son-in-law, Babu Johnson and his granddaughters Sarah & Sarina and a host of relatives and friends.
