Julius Silverzweig, age 100, passed away on March 21, 2026, in Ewing, New Jersey. Born January 6, 1926, in the Bronx, New York, to Charles and Esther Silverzweig, Jay, as he was known to family and friends, joyfully celebrated his one hundredth birthday earlier this year.
He was a proud graduate of Townsend Harris High School and the City College of New York. A veteran of World War II, he served aboard a Landing Ship Tank (LST) with the amphibious forces in the South Pacific. In 1950 he married the “light of his life,” Roslyn (Roz), and remained a devoted and loving husband throughout their seventy-six years of marriage. He was a beloved father and father-in-law to his three children, Wendy, Paul, and Neil (David), and a loving grandfather to James. He was also a cherished son, brother, and uncle.
In 1953 he joined Koenig and Son’s, his in-laws’ dry-cleaning business, and, as a visionary entrepreneur, helped transform it into a plastics recycling business. In 1969 the business moved from Brooklyn to Trenton, New Jersey, and the family relocated to Yardley, Pennsylvania. After the business was sold in 1980, Jay became a successful private investor and moved to Manhattan where, as a lifelong learner, he continued to study, read, and enjoy the cultural life of New York with Roz, his son Neil, and son-in-law David. He was deeply involved in his community, especially as an active member of the co-op board of his New York building, where he spearheaded many projects to maintain and improve the quality of life for his fellow cooperators.
He is preceded in death by his brother Abe and daughter Wendy. He is survived by his wife Roz, sons Paul and Neil, grandson Jim, and sister Gloria Horowitz and many nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in Jay’s memory can be made to Greenwood House, Ewing, New Jersey.
