Philosia Valnord

February 11, 1950February 13, 2021

Philosia Noel Etienne Valnord was born in Port-de-Paix, Haiti on February 11, 1950 to Safete and Estina Etienne. She was the youngest daughter of 11 siblings. Philosia was raised in the Christian faith from birth. She came to the United States at the age of 23 to Brooklyn, New York in 1973. God blessed her with three children David Valnord, Vionique Valnord, & Samuel Valnord. Philosia worked hard to assure her children were taken care of. While in Brooklyn, Philosia was known for directing services and praying for people. She even would drive the church van if need be to get people to church on time and safe. If someone was in need of anything she would jump to help them. Philosia’s life was all about serving God, her family, and friends. She is known for always testifying the goodness of Jesus Christ and encouraging anyone who would listen to do the same. Philosia moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1990 and God blessed her with her daughter Ruth Noelle Jean. Philosia continued the work of the Lord in Philly. She was affectionately known as “Mommy Philo'' She was a mommy to everyone. She worked hard in Philadelphia holding two full time jobs to again assure her children received their hearts desires and obtain their goals in life. She was a remarkable, dedicated and phenomenal mother, there is absolutely nothing she would not do for her children. She was always there for support and a listening ear. She was filled with wisdom and after talking to her you would feel like your problems were solved. She would make you laugh afterwards to soften the conversation if it was too heavy. She was an amazing grandmother, to her grandchildren. She treasured her grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. Her grandchildren were her world. There wasn't a birthday party missed, a graduation or school performance that she didn’t attend. She loved when they would sleepover and she would cook her famous macaroni and cheese or order out whatever they wanted to eat. She found joy spoiling them and letting them know that grandma loves them so much. Whatever her grandchildren needed she would provide. Philosia was a loyal friend, She would stand in to support a friend in any situation. She would travel or stay the night if need be and volunteer her daughter to help for additional support. She would stay on the phone to make you laugh and pray after. She was a true confidant. Her close friends became her family. Her close friends could count on her for anything. She gave unconditional love and support to her siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. She truly loved her family with all her heart and in any fashion she could she was present. She would encourage them with a bible story and assure that God will make a way. She loved her nieces and nephews with all her heart, her daily conversations with them made her day. TBN was her favorite television network, she has never missed an episode of the Bachelors since 2002. She loved Charlie Brown and Snoopy. If you were visiting her without a cup of coffee, you would have to go to the nearest Duncan Donuts and return back with an extra large cup of coffee. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went. Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” She is the loving & devoted mother of David & Elizabeth Valnord, Samuel & Regine Valnord, & Ruth Noelle Jean. Cherished grandmother of Elisha Valnord, Shanelle Valnord, Serenity Valnord, David Valnord Jr. Savannah Valnord, Samuel Valnord Jr. Stephan Valnord, Derrick Valnord, & Sion Valnord. My memory of Sister Philo was of so many good ones starting at Pastor Daniel church where myself along with my sister Stephanie, Mariam, Faimire, TiTit, Ruthie was in the youth choir. She always encouraged us when we sung on Youth Sunday’s. Always had a warming smile each time we saw her. Loved her church and each member. Never hesitated to pray with you, always there to lend a helping hand. Memories of her flooded my mind as I stood in my kitchen washing dishes. My eyes gazed out the window and immediately the song “Serem pi pre ou” started playing in my head. Tears flooded my eyes because I know that heaven gained an angel. Sir Philo, always tried to encourage people to open their hearts to God! She was a frontline soldier spreading the gospel. You never know when your time will come. She always lived her life to be prepared for him, and she wanted others to do the same. Wonderful mother and grandmother. Hard worker and a very good friend. Gone too soon. We love you Sister Philo.

Though I’ve never met you and always wished I did, I’ve heard so many great things about you from my mother (your niece) and I want to say that God gained an angel. He knew it was your time to come home to him so he took away from this evil world. My only regret is that I didn’t have the opportunity to meet you and sit with you and get to know you more. I love you forever aunty philo❤️.

From your grand niece, Sharon ❤️

Sr. Philo was an amazing woman, i know her through her Amazing daughter Ruthie. I have heard nothing but wonderful and funny things about her. I’ll miss her popping up by the house just to drop things off for my mom. She loved my children like they were her own grandchildren, always asking about them and their well being! I will miss driving around the corner and seeing her car, or catching her in traffic and running to tell Ruthie. Most of all i will miss all of Ruthie stories about her mom, i will miss her blowing Ruthie’s phone up while me and her are out and about and lastly i will miss her dearly because i know not only was she an amazing person she was Ruthie’s best friend. Sr. Philo you are missed and you were loved! RIP

This lady right here changed my diapers. From diapers, to being her sons wife, to giving her five beautiful grandkids. One thing I can say about my mother in law she wasn’t just my mother in law. I can honestly say treated me as if I were her own. When she scolded her kids she scolded me too, when she prayed for my kids and her kids she prayed for me too. She was a true women of God and we may have had our differences at times but her love for her grandkids and her family superseded anything and everything. I’m still in shock and I feel like she was suppose to live forever but God knows best and I know you are an angel watching over us all. Just know that your son and your grandkids are in good hands REST PEACFULLY IN THE ARMS OF GOD LOVE YOU MOM.

I did not know sr. Philo but who I did know was her daughter Ruthie. Ruthie is one of the friendliest, sweetest, most supportive people I know. I am sure that her goodness is a testament to having a wonderful mother. The love and support you get from a mother is unreplaceable. It’s full, it’s perfect, and pure. Ruthie I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you can find some solace in the fact that your mother will always be part of you because she imparted her goodness in you. My prayers will continue for you and the family. God promises that in our lowest times that is when He will be closest. May God grant you His peace and comfort through these trying times.
