

Rebecca was a long time resident of Matawan and Asbury Park, NJ before moving back to Carlisle in 2016. Rebecca was born on July 3, 1936 in Carlisle, PA, to parents, Leroy Washington, Sr. and Evelyn Carter-Washington. She graduated from Carlisle High School in 1954. She continued her education, graduating from Cheyney University in 1958 with a degree in Elementary Education and also graduated from Monmouth Bible Institute, Freehold, NJ. Rebecca went on to establish a career as a special education teacher, working for Bangs Avenue Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ and Cliffwood Elementary and Lloyd Road Elementary Schools in Matawan, NJ.
In addition to teaching, she also tutored students and hosted community scholars/high school students to help them receive extra credit. She retired from Lloyd Road Elementary after 27 years. She also served on the board of Directors at Bayshore Recreation Economic Development (B.R.E.D.) in the Matawan-Aberdeen, NJ area. B.R.E.D. provided after school tutoring and community activities in collaboration with other organizations and churches in the area.
Rebecca was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Neptune, NJ for many years and served as a member of the usher board. After several years she became a member of New Covenant Sounds of Praise, Asbury Park, NJ and served as a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and church mother. She later joined House of God in Matawan, NJ.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy, Sr. and Evelyn Washington; her brothers, Leroy, Jr., Clyde, Marshall, Michael and Abraham; her sisters, Frances Arzu, and Dorothy Thompson; her husband, James Hutcheson, and her grandson, Teddy Slay.
Rebecca is survived by her sister, Evelyn Hobbs (Willie); her son, Clyde Niblack, her daughter, Dorothy and son in love, Ballantine Agostini, her grandchildren: Jihad Nicholson, Alize Niblack, Maurice Johnson, Kendorah Nelson, and Kim Parker and great grandchildren, Asha Slay and Dakota Grove.
A viewing/visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 7, 2025, 11:00 AM at Kingdom Embassy, 2111 N. Fourth Street, Harrisburg, PA 17110, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12:00 PM .
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
