Robert Kitchen, 80, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2018. Born on April 22, 1938 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Daniel Kitchen and Mary Brown Kitchen and was the fourth of five children of a proud Naval family.
Upon graduation from Bartram High School in Southwest Philadelphia in 1956, Robert enlisted in the Navy, where he served from 1956 – 1960. He was stationed on the USS Lester 1022 and until his death, was active in the Naval Ship Reunions. After his Naval career, he worked for Drexel University until he was accepted in the Steamfitters Local 420 union, where he worked until his retirement. He also served in the Masonic Order at Trimble Lodge, where he was Master in 1971 and served as Grand Chaplain for the Lodge of New Jersey in 1999. He was also a member of the Shriner’s Organization, Tall Cedars and Southampton Square Club. Robert served as a Scout Master at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Troop 288 and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Troop 688 in Philadelphia for many years, as well as Camp Master at Resaca Falls.
A man of great faith, he served as an elder at Wilkie Presbyterian Church, Bethesda Presbyterian Church and Elkins Park Presbyterian Church. Robert also served as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and Bible Man at Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
Robert was the loving husband of 57 years of Edith Dale Kitchen, devoted father of Elaine (Alan) and the late Robert Jr. (Jennifer), the loving Pop Pop of Nicole and Kailey Labovitz and Rachael, Sarah, John and Elizabeth Kitchen. He was the brother of Samuel (Mazie) Kitchen and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006 on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 for visitation from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, followed by 11:00 AM service.
Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
