Ruth was a proud long-time resident of Philadelphia, PA. She was born on June 14, 1971 to parents James Joseph Gelgot and Ruth Elizabeth Farrington. She graduated from Frankford High School in 1989. She continued her education, graduating from LaSalle University with a degree in Special Education. Ruth went on to teach Special Education and Multiple Disabilities Support, working for the School District of Philadelphia for over 2 decades.
Ruth's number one priority in life was her two children, Abiageal and Emily. Her dedication and love for her family stayed strong for her entire life. In honor of her father who benefited from blood donations when he was sick, Ruth had been donating blood to the Red Cross regularly since 1999. She loved going on vacation with her family to Walt Disney World, the shore, and the mountains, always making sure to create lifelong memories. Ruth had the opportunity in 2013 to visit Alaska, one of her dream vacation destinations. Ruth had a great love for the Philadelphia Flyers and passed this passion to her children. She loved musical theater, participating in many school plays and even performing as the lead in a few, including playing the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz. She loved music in many ways and was often seen at concerts, most notably Elton John. Ruth shared this love of concerts with Abby and Emily, her daughters, and because of this they have seen 50+ shows they will always remember. They will continue to see artists perform in mother's memory.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father, James Joseph Gelgot.
Ruth is survived by her mother Ruth Farrington, her sister Dorothy Gelgot-Crego (Michael), her brother William Gelgot Sr. (Martha), husband Christopher Filon, and two daughters Abiageal Filon and Emily Filon.
