William "Bill" Friel Sr.

William A. Friel died peacefully on Friday, February 9, 2018 at his residence. He was 87 years of age. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edward A. and Elsie W. Hile Friel. William had lived in Red Hill for the past nineteen years; he had previously been a longtime resident of Jenkintown.

Mr. Friel was a retired employee of Sears in Philadelphia. He had previously worked for Boeing in Ridley Park and Otto & Ron’s Mobil in Jenkintown.

Bill was very family oriented and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed coin collecting and photography. He was an avid reader and worked at the Upper Perkiomen Valley Library in Red Hill after his retirement.

Bill was the beloved husband of Gertrude E. Meiris Friel for 66 years before her death in 2016. He was the devoted father of William A. Friel, Jr. of Red Hill, Janice Hluchan of Horsham, Martin Friel (Linda) of Dublin, Thomas Friel (Gail) of Skippack, Kathryn Platt (Frank) of Fort Washington, James Friel of Harleysville, and the late Eileen Tagmeyer. He was the brother of Janice Smith of Philadelphia and the late Edward and John Friel. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service at 11 AM on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA. His inurnment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.
