

Anna Jane Stanley, 89, of Huntington (formerly of 47 Indiana Street) died at 7:05 AM on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Heritage of Huntington. Mrs. Stanley was a life-long member of Evangelical United Methodist Church where she served on many church committees and for many years served as the President of Church Women United. Anna Jane, along with her husband Jim, owned the Gamble’s store in downtown Huntington for 36 years. Anna Jane also worked as a QMA for Miller’s Merry Manor from 1980 until her retirement in 1987. Mrs. Stanley also volunteered for many years with the Salvation Army and Miller’s Merry Manor.
Mrs. Stanley was born April 4, 1922 in Salinas, CA, a daughter of Clyde Lee and Ruth (Maples) Lenwell. She was united in marriage to James D. Stanley, Sr., on December 21, 1941 in Huntington. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1990. Anna Jane was a 1940 graduate of Huntington Township High School. Since 1938, Anna Jane has been an active member of the Penguin Club, made up of her high school classmates.
Anna Jane is survived by: one son, James D. (Jennifer) Stanley, Jr. of Brownsburg; two daughters, Barbara Meier of Huntington and Mrs. Jennifer (Curtiss) Wall of Mooresville; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Terry Stanley of Huntington; twelve (12) grandchildren and ten (10) great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two (2) sons, Jerry A. Stanley in February 2010 and Walter David Stanley in 1957; four (4) brothers, Clyde “Lew” Lenwell, Frederick “Fritz” Lenwell, Donald “Smokey” Lenwell and James “Jim” Lenwell; and one sister, Mary Catherine Bucher
Visitation for Anna Jane will be on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 1000 Flaxmill Road, Huntington, Indiana 46750 with James D. Stanley, Jr., and the Rev. Dr. Marti Lundy officiating. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Burial will take place at the Markle Cemetery in Markle, Indiana.
