Dr. John A. Gibson, 77, of Warren, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Lutheran Hospital. John lived his life to make a difference. After graduating from the old Lancaster High School, he began his career as a police officer in Alaska for ten years. He then changed his career and became a registered nurse, focussing on mental health. He received his MBA and MSN, but still felt compelled to make a difference. Coming from a family of school teachers, he saw how important behavioral issues were important to learning, which led him to obtain his PHD in human development with a focus on aggression and violence from the University of Hawaii in 2000. Although he was proud of his work with East Allen County School Corporation, it wasn't until he began his journey as the Director of Behavioral Services at Adams Memorial Hospital, that he really felt he was making a difference. His involvement in the Boys & Girls Club of Adams County and outreach services for patients with Alzheimer's disease allowed him the inner fulfillment he had been looking towards. John retired from AMH in 2021. Although very career focused, John loved spending time with his family, cruising, animals and being a 32nd Degree Mason at the Decatur Lodge.
John was born on August 27, 1948 in Muncie, Indiana, the son of the late Garrett Gibson and Betty (Vice) Fluke.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life and best friend, Kim Saylor on August 3, 2005. Kim survives.
Additional survivors include: two daughters: Ceirah (Carl) Heyneman of Ft. Wayne, Shaleenah (Lucas) Hanson of Huntington; a stepson: Michael (Kimberly) Grimm of North Carolina; a brother: Tom (Pamela) Gibson of Ossian; a daughter-in-law: Megan Springer of Fort Wayne; two sister-in-laws: Melissa Wilson, Dar Saylor and father-in-law: Ray Saylor; eight grandchildren: Christian Springer, Isabella Springer, William Springer, Henry Springer, Jonah Hanson, Jennings Hanson, Jazelle Hanson and Ryleigh Grimm.
