

Florence Louise (Schenkel) Schmalzried, 94 of Huntington passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at The Heritage of Huntington. She was a graduate of Bippus High School and attended Beauty College in Fort Wayne. She was a beautician and homemaker. She loved gardening, cooking and taking care of her family. She was a member of the New Hope United Church of Christ in Bippus.
She was born on May 30, 1918 in Huntington County the daughter of Philip and Theresa (Sell) Schenkel.
She was united in marriage to Keith Schmalzried on October 21, 1939. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons: James (Karen) Schmalzried of Huntington; Lee (Joni) Schmalzried of Huntington; three grandchildren: Anjanette (Steve) Cline, Adam (Linh) Nester, Nate Schmalzried and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son: Jay Schmalzried; a daughter Sue Schmalzried and four brothers: Carl, Ernest, Chris and Phil Schenkel. And a sister: Carolyn Krumanaker.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the New Hope United Church of Christ in Bippus.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 am following visitation at the New Hope United Church of Christ with Pastor Larry Holderbaum officiating.
Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Servia.
