

Helen J. “Nettie” Carnes, 87 of St. Petersburg, Florida and formerly of Huntington passed away at 8:52 pm on Monday, July 20, 2015 at Largo Medical Center in Florida. Helen was a graduate of Huntington High School. She had worked as the bookkeeper for Carnes Body Shop for many years. She was a past member of the Good Shepherd Church and Central Christian Church. She was a member of the Kappa Sigma Tau Sorority for 30 years, Leisure Ladies Bowling League for 40 years, Oak Lanes Bowling League and Women of the Moose Chapter 255 of Huntington. She enjoyed ringing bells for the Salvation Army.
Helen was born on February 18, 1928 in Huntington, a daughter of Marshall and Lucy (Bowman) Everding-Colgan.
She was united in marriage to Richard E. Carnes on September 15, 1946 in Huntington. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1991.
Survivors include two sons: Larry (Dee) Carnes of Seminole, FL; Ron (Kathy) Carnes of Huntington; a daughter: Jan (Tony) Hensel of Huntington; a half-brother: Jack Colgan of Florida; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a sister: Evelyn Grimes; a brother: Bobby Everding and a great granddaughter: Whitney Carnes.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 from 2:00 – 8:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Larry Taylor officiating.
Entombment will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
