Herbert D. “Herb” Oden 92 of Huntington passed away on April 28, 2022. He was a graduate of Huntington Township High School where he played basketball and baseball. Herb drove a school bus for Huntington County Community School Corporation from 1954 – 1986. After his retirement, he continued working for HCCSC as record keeper for the fuel management administration. He worked as a farmer his entire life. Herb enjoyed IU Basketball and the Cleveland Browns. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling and vacationing in Wisconsin.
Herb was born on August 24, 1929 in Huntington, the son of Charles and Alice (Gesaman) Oden.
He was united in marriage to Virginia E. “Ginny” Bouman on June 20, 1948 in Huntington. Ginny preceded him in death on December 2, 2021.
Survivors include a son: Michael “Mick” (Donna) Oden of Huntington; a daughter: Diane (Mike) Atkinson of Noblesville; a sister: Rosemary Loucks of Portland, IN; four grandchildren: Jason (Brittany) Oden, Jared Oden, Janell Oden, Heather Clark and four great grandchildren: Ross Oden, Bryson Oden, Blake Murphy and Blaze Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson: Jeremy Oden and a brother: Richard “Dick” Oden.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 following visitation at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
Interment will be at the Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington County.
