

Hubert Lewis Houser, 85 of Huntington passed away at 2:05 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was a US Navy veteran serving in WWII from 1944 – 1946. He worked with the U.S Postal Service out of the Huntington office, retiring in 1988 as Superintendent of Postal Operations. Upon retiring he went to work for the City of Huntington at the landfill, working the scales and computer. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2689 of Huntington. He was a member of New Hope United Brethren Church. He enjoyed tournament bass fishing and making furniture in his own wood shop.
He was born on April 20, 1926 in Huntington County, a son of Herman M. and Gladys M. (Littlefield) Houser.
He was united in marriage to Maureen (Rose) Solomon on May 27, 1977 in Youngstown, Ohio. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include a son: Brian (Julie) Houser of Huntington; a stepson: Jules (Lisa) Solomon of Decatur; five grandchildren: Cory Houser, Seth Houser, Jeremy Solomon, Dustin Solomon, Shantel Solomon and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 3:00 pm following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Dr. Ray Seilhamer and Pastor Lyn Mefferd officiating.
Interment will be at the Markle Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are to New Hope United Brethren Church Building Fund or Food Pantry both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
