

Jane Shutt Mason, 92 passed away on May 29, 2012 after an illness of several months duration. Jane was a 1937 graduate of Huntington Township High School. She attended both Huntington College and Greenville College. She worked as a bookkeeper at Shutt’s Farm Market, the locker plant founded by her father. After the death of her husband, Wendell, in her late 50’s, she started a career that lasted until she was 80, as the archivist for The United Brethren Church, establishing the church and college archives at the college library. Jane and Wendell were very active in the College Park United Brethren Church, where she was a board member, children’s Sunday school superintendent and teacher, VBS director for several years, editor of the church newsletter, and member of the Galilean Sunday School class and the Evening Missionary Society. She also served as a youth leader with her husband. Later she was a member of the New Hope United Brethren Church, close to her home. Since February 2009 Jane lived in Maumee, Ohio, with her daughter Barbara and her husband, Dr. Jonathan Rohrs. She attended the Holland Free Methodist Church and enjoyed activities with her ten relatives nearby.
Jane was born on September 21, 1919 in Huntington County, a daughter of Fred and Gladys (Mahoney) Shutt, Sr.
She was united in marriage to Wendell Mason in 1941.
Survivors include her son: Ronald A. (Melanie) Mason of Syracuse; a daughter: Barbara A. Rohrs of Maumee, OH; a sister: Ruth Thorne of Savannah, GA.; six grandchildren: David (Helena) Mason, Derrick Mason. Stephanie Rohrs (Bruce) Hulbert, Christine Rohrs, John (Charlotte) Rohrs and Robert Rohrs; three great-grandchildren: Jacob and Gabriel Hulbert and Tryston Baker.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Wendell Mason, chemist at Huntington Labs and two brothers: Dean Shutt and Fred Shutt, Sr. and two sisters: JoAnn Steele and Helen Marshall.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. following visitation at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Rev. Kent Maxwell officiating.
Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Huntington County.
