Joan M. Dennis, 98, of Huntington and formerly of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at the Heritage Pointe of Huntington. Joan was born on May 14, 1928, the daughter of Albert and Celeste (Franklin) Cramer. She married Maurice Dennis on October 1, 1949 at the Roanoke Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Joan enjoyed antiquing, collecting Haviland China, going out to lunch, visiting with friends, reminiscing about growing up in Roanoke, and most of all, chocolate. Joan and Maurice enjoyed traveling throughout North America in their private plane. Their love of travel also took them to three different continents. Joan also loved sharing her family history and genealogy, tracing her family tree to its origins in Germany. She and her husband, along with their three sons, founded and operated Dennis Grain Company, a family-owned business established in 1972.
Survivors include three sons: Marc G. (Linda) Dennis of Huntington, Jack R. (Polly) Dennis of Roanoke, Robert C. (Marilyn) Dennis of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Maurice Dennis; two sisters: Mary Brown, Beverly Spice; and a grandson: Kendall Dennis.
A private family burial service will take place at a later date at the Glenwood Cemetery in Roanoke.
