Joann Dolby, 89 of Huntington, passed away Saturday afternoon September 14, 2024 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Joann was the Nursery School Director at the Seminary United Methodist Church for many years. She was a 1953 graduate of Clear Creek High School. Joann was a long time member of Pleasant Chapel Community Church, where she played the organ and piano and taught Sunday School for over 50 years, she loved her Church family unconditionally. She was also involved in the Women's Group and served on multiple committees through the years and loved to head up VBS for the children each summer. Joann was also a member of the Huntington County Farm Bureau Board and ran the Pet Parade at the Huntington County 4-H fair for over 30 years as well as being a 4-H leader for over 20 years. She was a farm wife and enjoyed the farm life with her husband Robert. She also loved to garden and to travel, going to Hawaii visiting family and going on Senior bus trips with friends.
Joann was born on February 24, 1935 in Huntington, a daughter to the late Warren G. and Retta (Thorn) Smith.
She was united in marriage to Robert L. Dolby on July 24, 1955. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1993.
Joann is survived by a daughter: Deborah (Dan) Hunter of Roann; two brothers: Patrick (Mary) Smith of Huntington and Ned (Nan) Smith of Fort Wayne; three sisters: Phyllis (Eldon) Bruner of Huntington, Sharon Sisson and Suellen Jones both of Warren; three grandsons: Jeremy Hunter, Scott Hunter and Jason (Sarah) Hunter and two great-grandsons: Bennett and Elliott.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Karen R. Dolby and a son: Keith R. Dolby; and two brother-in-laws: Rex Sisson and Gary Jones.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St, Huntington, IN 46750
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior at Pleasant Chapel Community Church, 880 E. 1100 N., Roanoke, IN 46783.
Interment will be at the Pleasant Chapel Cemetery on September 21, 2024 in rural Roanoke, Indiana.
