John Welter Uhl, 77, of Huntington, passed away on Friday evening, September 6, 2024 in Ft. Wayne. John spent his childhood years in Huntington through Junior High, then moved to Bluffton where he graduated from Lancaster Central High School in 1965. He was claimed by the U.S. Army where he served from 1966-1968, with a thirteen month tour in Vietnam. After serving in the U.S. Army, John had decided to enroll at Huntington University where he graduated with a B.A. in Religion in 1979. John's employment included pastoral ministry, social and factory work. During retirement he enjoyed table games, karaoke and ministering to folks around him. His hospital stays were a mission field for him.
He was born on December 10,1946 in Huntington, the son of the late Albert and Hazel (Baker) Uhl.
He was united in marriage to Sue Gaskill, his wife survives in Huntington.
Additional survivors include a daughter: Tina Rodriguez : step-children : Miki (Richard) Beck, Rona Mack, Melanie Mack, Jenni (John Pfortmiller) Lyon and Brett (Beth) Streuer; a sister: Joan (Roger) Woodke; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salvation Army 1424 E. Market St. Huntington, IN 46750
Interment will be at the Marion National Cemetery at a later date.
