Kenneth J Schilling

Kenneth J. “Jay” Schilling, 77 of Huntington passed away at 3:55 pm on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital. Jay was a 1954 graduate of Chester Township High School in Wabash County. Jay served his country in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961 at Ft. Knox Kentucky, and Ft. Benning Georgia. He was co-owner and owner of Schilling Carpet in Markle from 1980 until his retirement in 2005. Prior to that he was the manager of Welfare Finance. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Norwood’s and LaFontaine Golf Clubs and the Moose Lodge 837 in Huntington. He was an avid golfer. He was a pitcher for the Show Lounge fast pitch softball team during the 1960”s and 1970’s, and was a pitcher for the Knights of Columbus state championship team in 1973. He spent his last two years pitching for Oak Lanes.

Jay was born on March 6, 1936 in Huntington, a son of Clarence and Laura (Schrock) Schilling.

He was united in marriage to Jean Erb on April 12, 1969 at Trinity United Methodist Church by Orrin Manifold. His wife survives.

Additional survivors include two brothers: Rex (Alice) Schilling of Claypool; Max Schilling of Sterling Heights, MI; a sister: Audra (Wendell) Beck of Avilla; two sister-in-laws: Clara Schilling of Bluffton and Margaret Schilling of Huntington, 16 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Dean Schilling, Glen Schilling, Keith Schilling and a nephew: Don Schilling.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Rev. Bob Land officiating.

Interment will be at the Lancaster Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made out to Huntington County Cancer Society, American Heart Association or to Trinity United Methodist Church all in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
