

M. Vance Darland, 93 of Huntington passed away at 2:05 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital. Vance was a 1937 graduate of Liberty Township High School in Tangier, Indiana. He was a member of the Etna Avenue Wesleyan Church. He was a dairy farmer for several years and had worked at Normandy Farms and also at Eagle Valley Farms both in Indianapolis. He was a 50 year member of Farm Bureau. He worked at E-Systems/Memcor as a lead man in receiving and inspections for 24 years, retiring in 1981. He was an avid mushroom hunter and angler for bluegill and crappie in Wisconsin and other locations.
Vance was born on May 30, 1919 in Mecca, Indiana, a son of George Clarence and Ermer Lee (Sanders) Darland.
He was united in marriage to Frances M. Mikels on August 1, 1938 in Austin, Indiana. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include a son: James D. (Clodella) Darland of Fort Wayne; two daughters: Nancy C. Smith of Warren; Linda J. (Gary) Alexander of Upland; a sister: Sara Imogene Gobel of Tangier, IN; seven grandchildren: twenty great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Glen Darland, Thomas Wayne Darland; a sister: Violet Ruth Kiger and a son-in-law: Larry Smith.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Tom Bradley officiating.
Memorial donations may be made out to Etna Avenue Wesleyan Church or to donor’s choice of charity in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
Interment will be at the Lancaster Cemetery.
