Michael Dean Adkins, 70, of Huntington, passed away on Saturday October 31, 2026 at Markle Health and Rehab in Markle Indiana. Michael was born on October 4, 1956, in Pikeville, Kentucky, to Sammy and Ivy Adkins. He and his family moved to Indiana when he was a young boy, and he made Huntington his home from then on.
Mike was an avid music lover and a self-taught musician who played the guitar, piano, and harmonica. Rock and roll was a constant presence in his home, and few songs were more fitting for Mike than his favorite, “Stairway to Heaven.” He also had a quick wit and a great sense of humor, something his daughters like to think was passed down to them. In the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s, he worked at Kresge Warehouse in Fort Wayne until the location closed. He then spent many years working at the Breyers ice cream manufacturing facility in Huntington. He ended his working years as a forklift operator at Scott’s Warehouse.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister: Sammy Adkins Jr., Bobby Adkins, Frank Adkins, Paul Adkins, and Fredia Teusch.
He is survived by his two sisters, Patty (David) McCormick of Palm Bay, Florida and Deloris (Leo) Fannin, of Melbourne, Florida; his two daughters, Sarah (Joseph) Christ and Rachel McCoy, both of Huntington; and his five grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Emma McCoy, Jaiden Kirk, Adalee Kirk, Iris McCoy, and Lucy McCoy.
Per his wishes, there will be no funeral services. However, we hope that anyone who knew Mike will take a moment to celebrate his life in whatever way feels right to them.
