Monte Lee Voght, of Huntington, passed away Saturday evening July 25, 2026, at his home. How do we sum up someone's life in a dash? 1940-2026, eighty-six full long years summed up by a dash. As a family we can summarize some things, but anyone who knew Monte knew he was a simple man. He was a jeans and flannel kind of guy, but he taught us all to not live beyond our means and to enjoy every second of life. Even in the bad moments he sure left a heck of a legacy for his family. Monte's family was his true pride and joy, especially his greats, the only thing he ever asked for was our time which was something precious to him. Whether it was a cup of coffee or to raid his candy dish, that was the first thing he’d offer with a smile when you walked in his door. From serving in the military, hunting, gardening, or fishing he was a true man’s man. Monte was a hardworking man, in his lifetime he worked for Madison Silos, Keene Corp., and he retired from Orton Crane. Before his working years, he served our country as an Army Specialist E-4 From 1959 to 1963, when he was honorably discharged and decided to settle down. He married Esther Waldron and they had a twenty-seven-year marriage which gave them five kids and many grand and great grand kids. In his later days he spent his time with his life partner Charlotte Slater going fishing, listening to music, and just truly enjoying each other's time. Monte sure has broken a lot of hearts, but he made sure to overfill them with love first, he truly will be missed.
Monte was born on March 20, 1940, in Huntington, a son of the late Lewis and Quma Maxine (Myers) Voght.
Survivors include two daughters: Tammy Wells of Huntington and Sherry (James) Miller of Andrews; a son James Voght of Huntington; a sister: Susan (Terry) Scher of Fort Wayne; fifteen grandchildren: Shawna (Johnny) Young, Laura (Beaux) Riley, Bill (Joyce) Wells, Savanah (David) Harrison, Molly Wells, Rick Voght, Jedsica Ness, Herman (Abby) Ness, Monte Ness, Brittany Miller, Kayla Hagerman, Mirina Voght, Kya Voght, Damon Voght and Karma Voght; and twenty- nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Montie Ann; a son: Terry Voght; a grandson Tanner Voght; three brothers Ted, Dale and Bill and three sisters Pat, Chris and Judy
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with one hour of visitation prior to the services.
Memorial contributions will be made out to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, sent in care to Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, IN 46750.
