Nelson D. Schoeff, 93, of Huntington passed away on April 10, 2026. He was born in Huntington County to Charles and Verna Schoeff. He attended Union Township (Huntington County) High School for eleven years and graduated from Roanoke High School in 1950. He loved sports and was a varsity basketball player throughout his high school years. He also enjoyed fast pitch softball on the Schact Rubber team and several other local teams. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he was the NCO of the Post Exchange. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal and Sharpshooters Badge.
After he was honorably discharged in 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary Clipp, in Huntington. He retired as a master journeyman insulator in 1993 after 41 years in the trade and was a member of Local 41 in Fort Wayne. He later retired from a part-time position with Kelley Automotive Group in 2002. And, he also volunteered at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. He was previously a member of The Chapel.
He enjoyed all outdoor work and especially riding his John Deere tractor. During their retirement years, he and his wife also traveled extensively throughout the United States in their RV along with their three dogs.
Nelson is survived by his three children, Tim (Myrna) Schoeff, Huntington, Jan (Brian) McDonough, Fort Wayne, and Lynn (Charles) Cole, Pierceton. Also, left to cherish his memory are three grandchildren, Stephanie (John) Stickler, Megan McDonough, and Kevan (Danielle) McDonough as well as three great-grandchildren, Isabella Stickler, Jacob Stickler and Bailey McDonough. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rosemary, in 2021. He was additionally preceded by his parents and two brothers, Marshall Schoeff and Floyd Wayne Schoeff.
Myers Funeral Home of Huntington is entrusted with the care of Nelson. No services are planned.
