Rachel Mae Truitt, 101 of Huntington passed away on Monday evening, May 30, 2022 at her residence. Rachel was a member of E.S.A. Sorority in Huntington. She volunteered at Huntington Memorial Hospital/Parkview Huntington Hospital as a surgical hostess for over 25 years. Rachel was a member of the Central Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She was very active in the church circle group. Rachel was always smiling and outgoing. She enjoyed being around and meeting people. Rachel was known for her sense of humor, she enjoyed playing pranks. Her cheerful personality lifted the spirits of all those around her.
Rachel was born on August 27, 1920 in Greensboro, NC, the daughter of the late, Thomas Ruffin Lucas and Bertha Mae (Lowe) Lucas.
She was united in marriage to Homer W. Truitt on January 20, 1945 in Greensboro, NC at Lee’s Chapel Methodist Church. Homer preceded her in death in 1981.
Survivors include two sons: Richard (Carolyn) Truitt, James (Nancy) Truitt both of Huntington; four grandchildren: Stacey Truitt of Fishers, IN, Stephanie Truitt, Jennifer (Aaron) Carl, Phillip (Ashley) Truitt all of Huntington; four great grandchildren: Xavier Carl, Sawyer Carl, Elliot Carl and Ariah Carl.
She was preceded in death by two sisters; her twin sister: Rebecca Lee Carter, Ruth Latham, and a brother: Thomas Phillip Lucas.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will also be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 following visitation at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Dr. Sam Young officiating.
Interment will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington.
