Rex was born on April 1, 1939 in Huntington, IN. The son of the late Harold A. and Mary Helen (Folk) Solloway.
He was united in marriage to Janice A. (Carroll), the love of his life, on October 7, 1961 at Bethel Church, Huntington, IN, his wife survives. Their love was a true love story, meeting each other in the summer of 1945 when Rex was 6 years old and Janice was 4 years old, living across the street from each other. Janice was always his best friend, growing up, but they didn’t start dating until early 1961 and marrying later that same year.
He graduated from Huntington High School in 1957. He then went on to trade school, graduating as a Certified Electric Motor Repairman.
He worked at General Electric as a motor winder for 27 years and retired from Electric Power Service after 27 years.
Served as a Sergeant in the 38th Infantry of the Indiana National Guard, Huntington, IN.
He was a member of Bethel Riverside Church for his entire adult life.
He was an avid fan of IU Basketball, the Chicago Cubs, and the Indianapolis Colts. He also loved fishing for bluegill and bowling for “Woody’s” for almost 40 years. But most of all, his favorite sport was whatever his 2 grandsons, Luke and Logan, were playing. He adored his grandsons. His favorite nickname, which Luke gave him, was “Grandpa Dork.” He loved it!

nephews: Michael (Christine) Schnitz of Huntington, Mark (Cindy) Solloway of Wabash, Matthew (Cindy) Solloway of Hartford City, Jeff, Kentin, and Jay Gearhart, Nicholas (Angela) Carroll, FL, Christopher (Chip) Carroll, SC; nieces: Penny Powers of FL, Pamela (Lee) Risher of Wabash, Deb Gearhart, Joni (Dick) Furnish of Huntington, and Jennifer (James) Piatt of MI.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents
half brother, Fred Gearhart, paternal grandparents, Arthur & Nellie (Schroeder) Solloway, and maternal grandparents, Mr & Mrs Henry Folk
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, located at 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington Indiana, 46750.
