Only talked to my grandfather once, just after Marine boot camp. Too bad our lives never intersected but I am grateful to Aunt Amanda for writing about his military career. I have toasted fallen friends in Afghanistan but never a grandfather. So, here's my best effort:  "Non Sibi Sed Patriae." May your service and courage never be forgotten.

Amanda so sorry to hear about your dad no words can express how it feels.

Uncle Bob was a great guy.  I loved to hear the stories that would come out whenever he and Grandpa Jim were together.  Thanks for the memories Uncle Bob.  Be at peace now.

Uncle Bob you were always so fun to talk to always made me laugh. Whenever you came to the family reunions your smile always made me smile. My prayers are with your loved ones for all of our hearts to heal from your loss. You will be missed. Stacey Sherman (Miller)

This is my dad. This is exactly how he wanted his obituary.  Well, dear dad, you NEVER stated that I could not add to it on Facebook!  Robert L Meyer served in the US NAVY from 1943 to 1969. He served in WWII; the invasion of Gamadodo, New Guinea, the Schonen Islands and Luson, Mindora, and Leyte where he was mine sweeper. He then became a deep sea diver aboard the U.S.S. Coucal ASR8 in the Occupation of Japan. Mr. Meyer also participated in the Bikini Bomb Test with the U.S.S. Skate submarine.  He assisted in anchoring her to the bottom. Then one year later, repairing her, and bringing her to the surface and towing her back to Pearl Harbor. He was in the Evacuation of China on board the U.S.S. Okanogan APA 220. He was in the Korean War aboard the U.S. S. Boxer CVA 21. He also served in the Panama Conflict, Cuban Crisis and Vietnam.- That is what we have put together so far about dad's  Navy Career. He has so many medals and awards from the Navy. He retired his career as CPO on the U.S.S. Kilauea AE-26. That doesn't even touch the GREAT stories he had! He led such an adventurous life!  Robert L Meyer then became a civilian. We moved to Indiana and he worked at Majestic as a fireplace inspector where he also retired. Parkinson Disease slowly destroyed him to a mere fraction of what he was. I love my dad and I am proud of him. I want the world to know that he led a most wonderful, eventful, amazing life.  He had a great family and we all respected, adored and loved him tons.  He was a very good man and so smart about LIFE. His advice, thoughts, knowledge, stories, and sense of great humor will be terribly missed.

Uncle Bob, I have so many memories of you, mostly Amanda and I doing something we were not suppose to and you catching us at it! You were always so good to me, I will miss you so much!! To my family, Aunt Jean, cousins Amanda and Tally, I love you all very much hold on to your memories of your wonderful husband and father.....

Uncle Bob was the greatest man I ever knew, his love of his family and country was greater than anyone I know. I love him and his family so much and I will miss him immensely. My heart goes out to my Aunt Jean and cousins and my Mom. They are all in my Prayers.
