Ronald K. "Ron" Carnes, 74 of Huntington, passed away surrounded by family, Wednesday evening September 16, 2026 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne after a short battle with cancer. Ron was a 1970 graduate of Huntington North High school. He owned and operated Carnes Body Shop in Huntington for 34 years retiring in 2001. He later worked for Huntington University for seven years in Food Service, he loved making pizza and interacting with the students. Ron was also a longtime employee of Myers Funeral Home, serving families for over twenty years. He was a former longtime member of the Good Shepherd United Brethren Church and most recently he was a member of the Huntington First Church of the Nazarene. Ron loved serving at church, he sang on the worship team, he was on the Endowment Committee, he and his wife Kathy served on the Meal Ministry and he loved serving at VBS. Ron loved playing pickleball and going fishing. He enjoyed most sports, including playing volleyball for many years, and water sports. Ron camped for many years at Jellystone Park, he truly loved the outdoors and nature. He loved following the grandkids in all of the activities they were involved with and he was a huge supporter of the Huntington North sports teams. Ron loved going on walks with Kathy, and his dog Hazel, throughout Huntington spending time with friends along the way. He had a great personality, infectious laugh and he didn't know a stranger.
Ron was born on August 19, 1952 in Huntington, a son of the late Richard E. and Helen J. "Nettie" (Everding) Carnes.
He was united in marriage to Kathy L. Crawford on August 7, 1971 in Markle. Kathy survives in Huntington.
Additional survivors include two daughters: Stacia (Rich) Hertel and Natalie (Alex) Burgess both of Huntington; a son: Nick (Kirby) Carnes of Madeira Beach, FL; seven grandchildren: Lanie (Josh) Young, Dawson (Haley) Hertel, Evan Blocker, Ellie Bartrom, Dylinn Hertel, Easah Bartrom and Eluciana Burgess; three great grandsons: Henry Hertel, Thomas Hertel and Luka Young; a brother: Larry (Dee) Carnes of Seminole, FL and a sister: Jan Hensel of Syracuse, IN.
He was preceded in death by a brother in law: Tony Hensel.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2026 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral Services will take place on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Huntington First Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Rd, Huntington, Indiana. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church.
Interment will take place in the Mt. Hope cemetery in Huntington.
