Samuel "Sam" L. Shenefield, 85 of Huntington, passed away late Monday evening December 22, 2025 at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne. Sam was a 1958 graduate of Huntington High school and he later served his country in the US Navy. In his younger years Sam worked for Huntington Nursery. He then worked for Noll Printing for over 30 years until they closed. Sam finished his working career as a custodian for Huntington Community Schools for 10 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and taking care of his lawn; mushroom hunting, fishing, going to estate sales, auctions and car shows, woodworking and carpentry. Sam was an avid football fan especially rooting on the Colts. He loved spending time with his family and his beloved dog Gertie; going on walks with the grandkids, and supporting the great grandkids at their sporting events. Sam took great joy in spending time on the swing with Carol and anyone who wanted to sit for a while.
Sam was born on February 15, 1940 in Huntington, a son of the late Richard and Loretta (Peterson) Shenefield.
He was united in marriage to Carol Dolby on August 26, 1984 in Huntington. Carol survives.
Additional survivors include three daughters: Amy (Eric) Good of Roanoke, Dena Shenefield of Huntington and Carole Ann (Eugene) Monroe of Wabash; a son: Scott (Soon) Wallace of Andrews; a daughter in law: Yong Wallace and a son in law: Martin Hubley; fourteen grandchildren: Morgan (Doug) Wellman, Megan (Aaron) Johns, Taylor (Erika) Petre, Macy Good, Sidney Good, Collin Good, , Amanda Hubley, Elizabeth Hubley, Hannah (John) Carmichael, Kayla Wallace, Charity Coyne, Chris Coyne, Jihee and Song (Won); eighteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Shelley Hubley, a son Michael Wallace, a great granddaughter Ainsley Good, seven brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford St., Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. following the visitation at the Funeral Home.
Interment will take place in the Lancaster Cemetery at a later date.
