Velma L. Myers, 101, of Huntington passed away at Heritage Point of Huntington on the morning of September 13, 2024. She was 1940 graduate of Clear Creek High School and a member of St. Peter's First Community Church. Velma was also a member of the Loyal Partners Sunday School class and the "Just Us" Club. Prior to her marriage she had worked at F.W. Woolworths. After her marriage she Co-Farmed the family farm and worked alongside her husband for many years. Velma loved to keep her house clean and her garden looking great. In her own words she "Loved to mow my yard." She was an excellent baker with some of her family favorites being her pies, yeast coffee cake, and her molasses christmas cookies. Along with her baking some of her favorite meals that she enjoyed were her homemade noodles, homemade ice cream made with the dairy from their farm, and her famous potato salad.
Velma was born on January 6, 1923 a daughter of the late Edward J. and Olive A. (Grossman) Gunzenhauser.
She was united in marriage to Don Myers on November 26, 1944 in Huntington, Indiana. Don preceded her death on October 13, 2005.
Velma is survived by two sons: Allen (Leslie) Myers of Fishers, and Rod (Jeannie) Myers of Huntington; four grandchildren: Jason (Katie) Myers of Fishers, Erica (Kyle) Kibler of Fishers, Adam (Erica) Myers of Huntington, and Stacie Myers of Fishers; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Earl Gunzenhauser and Dale Gunzenhauser; and her beloved sister in law: Nancy Mackowski.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 17, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter's First Community Church, located at 206 Etna Ave. Huntington IN 46750.
A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 17, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation at St. Peter's First Community Church.
Interment will take place at St. Peter's First Cemetery
